West Berkshire Council is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Visitor Services Officer to join our team at Shaw House, reporting to the Shaw House Manager. The Role
Responsibilities
As the Visitor Services Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the highest standards of visitor experience at Shaw House. Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting the Shaw House Manager in the day-to-day operation of visitor services
Delivering excellent customer service to all visitors, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded
Managing the front-of-house operation, including handling enquiries
Coordinating and delivering engaging events and activities for visitors
Contributing to the promotion and marketing of Shaw House as a visitor destination
Assisting with developing retail opportunities associated with the house
In addition, you will work closely with other teams within the Council to ensure effective collaboration and delivery of services.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
Experience in a similar visitor services role, ideally within a heritage or cultural environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with a diverse range of visitors
A customer-focused approach, with a passion for delivering exceptional service
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all seasons when needed
Willing to work at weekends on a rota basis and on bank holidays
Comfortable with change
Please note this role is fixed term until 01/08/2026 – Backfill for secondment
