The role
As a Lead Control Systems Engineer – PLC/SCADA, you will take ownership of full project lifecycles — from design and software development to testing, installation, and commissioning. You will lead technical delivery, guide junior engineers, and ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities
Lead the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of control systems
Attend client meetings, conduct site surveys, and provide expert technical input
Develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA software (Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Wonderware/AVEVA, ClearSCADA etc.)
Produce technical documentation and ensure compliance with project specifications
Mentor and support junior engineers and apprentices to promote skill development
Undertake site-based commissioning work when required
What you'll need
Minimum 5 years' experience in control systems engineering, ideally in a senior or lead role
Degree in Electrical or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
Hands-on experience with PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming and integration
Experience with Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, or Wonderware platforms
Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
Full UK driving licence and eligibility to work in the UK
