Job Introduction
Are you passionate about logistics, safety, and delivering exceptional service? We’re looking for a dynamic and strategic Third-Party Haulage Manager to join our Cement, Packed Products & Powders business. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure our third-party haulage partners consistently deliver high levels of service, operate safely, and remain cost-effective. You’ll be the driving force behind a robust logistics network that supports our operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
1. Manage third-party logistics providers to ensure safe operations, service excellence, and budget adherence
2. Monitor and optimise contracts, SLAs, and performance metrics
3. Act as the central liaison between operating sites, commercial teams, and support functions
4. Ensure haulage models flex effectively during peak seasons and align with internal stakeholders
5. Lead periodic reviews and tenders to maintain optimal haulage partnerships
6. Champion haulier safety engagement programmes with short, medium, and long-term strategies
7. Support network optimisation reviews to maintain agility and responsiveness
8. Build strategic relationships with hauliers and develop a reliable network of ad hoc resources
Key Characteristics
To thrive in this role, you should be:
9. Knowledgeable in road transport and SHEQ legislation
10. A self-starter with strong independence and initiative
11. Highly numerate and literate with excellent attention to detail
12. Familiar with modern vehicle standards and logistics IT tools (e.g., EPOD, scheduling, optimisation)
13. Skilled in balancing complex decisions and risk-benefit analysis
14. Well-connected in the transport and logistics industry
15. Organised and capable of managing change programmes
16. Financially astute with strong cost management capabilities
17. Customer-focused with a drive to add value
18. Collaborative, influential, and resilient
Key Functional Competencies
You possess the following:
19. Expertise in national road transport of bulk powders and general haulage
20. Proven experience managing third-party transport partners
21. Strong contract management capabilities
22. Broad supply chain and logistics knowledge, with examples of best practice implementation
Experience / Education
It is desirable that applicants will have:
23. Business degree level qualification or equivalent
24. Relevant Supply Chain & Logistics degree level qualification
25. Transport Certificate of Professional Competence
26. Chartered Membership of Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport
