Required from January 2026, or earlier if possible, a 1.0 FTE Education Adviser to work across the borough with both primary and secondary schools. Sandwell School Improvement Service is a high performing team with a reputation of excellence across the local region. The team works closely with headteachers, school governors and a range of LA services and HMI to ensure the best possible standards of education for our children. The successful applicant will need to have recent and relevant leadership experience in nursery, primary or secondary school or academy. Experience of working across phases would be welcome. The Education Adviser will work collaboratively with the school improvement team to ensure high quality training and support is available to all schools and to monitor and evaluate its effectiveness. The successful applicant will need to engage successfully with a range of partners. They will have experience of developing and delivering effective professional development programmes for teaching staff to ensure a self-sustaining school improvement system is maintained in the borough and schools have a single point of contact to find appropriate support to deliver better outcomes for children. The post-holder will also work with colleagues to build on the best inclusive practice that already exists within schools and the local authority and to develop this across primary and secondary schools and academies. Experience of developing inclusive practices across the Early Years would be particularly welcomed. They will be familiar with both the EYFS curriculum and the SEND code of practice to ensure that all children and young people make the best possible start to their school life. The successful applicant should be conversant with the expectations of Local Authority work and should be able to contribute to the work and income generation of the school improvement team. The post is based at Sandwell Council House but involves travelling across the borough and working outside of normal office hours to meet the needs of schools.
