Job Summary
An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the Incident, Inquest and Legal Team. The post will be part‑time for 1 day per week for a fixed term of 12 months.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and expert professional advice to managers and staff within the Trust on patient safety incident responses, assurance processes and risk management.
* Review and oversee the management of patient safety incidents reported across the Trust, liaising with operational services to ensure appropriate review is completed, lessons learned are identified, actions have been taken and appropriate attention is given to those incidents meeting the criteria of a serious incident.
* Coordinate and, where required, lead robust investigations of serious incidents in accordance with PSIRF, Trust policies and procedures and ensure that appropriate local review, quality assurance and sign‑off procedures have been completed prior to submission to the Incident Review Meetings.
* Support the work around inquests.
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
Essential
* Current professional registration (Nurse, AHP or Social Worker) with a regulatory body.
* Master’s degree level educational qualification.
* Postgraduate level qualification/training or equivalent work experience in clinical governance.
Desirable
* Project management qualification.
* Teaching and training qualification.
* Investigation/root cause analysis/human factors training.
Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
* Extensive working knowledge of governance processes in clinical services and the interface with quality of care and assurance mechanisms.
* In‑depth knowledge of patient safety / risk management and governance within a health or social care organisation.
* Working knowledge of NHS regulatory programmes of work and the relationship with / to risk management strategy and policy.
* Knowledge of the wider NHS governance programmes of work and national agenda.
* Understanding of the governance and corporate agenda/management in an NHS organisation, or in a social care/local authority organisation.
* Knowledge of incident investigation methodologies and frameworks.
* Knowledge of Datix system or a similar incident and risk management system.
* Ability to develop, maintain and monitor information systems to support improvement initiatives.
* Ability to use established networks and create new ones to share good practice and facilitate engagement.
* Ability to provide senior leadership and work with senior leaders.
Experience
Essential
* Experience of coordinating and undertaking serious incident investigations.
* Extensive experience in a senior management role within a governance compliance or assurance environment in a health or social care organisation.
* Experience of multi‑professional and agency working to deliver improvement programmes/agendas across services.
* Experience of delivering and coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments.
* Experience in teaching small and large groups and delivering presentations with confidence to a range of audiences.
* Proven track record of delivering change.
Desirable
* Experience of managing an NHS Governance initiative.
