Machine Operator – Packing (Thirsk) – Permanent – Site-based
Overview
We’re recruiting a Machine Operator to join the Packing department at our manufacturing site near Thirsk. The role involves packing extruded kibble into specific bags for customers, working in one of four cells equipped with automated machines and robots that assist in the bagging, sealing, wrapping, and stacking processes.
On Offer
£15.07 per hour (including shift allowance). Annual salary £32,913. 42 hours per week (24/7), hourly pay paid monthly on the last Friday of each month.
Shift Model
The Dupont schedule follows a four‑week cycle with day (05:30–17:30) and night (17:30–05:30) shifts, often within the same week. Colleagues work three or four consecutive days followed by one to three days off, plus a seven‑day block off during the four‑week period.
Responsibilities
- Pack extruded kibble into specified bags for customers, working in one of four automated cells.
- Maintain the highest quality by performing hourly checks and recording data on paper‑based documents.
- Set up and operate machines throughout shifts.
- Follow production guidelines and ensure correct packing.
- Monitor machinery effectiveness.
- Adhere to the IPN “Clean As You Go” policy to maintain hygiene.
- Promote a people‑safe culture by complying with policies, reporting safety observations, and reporting plant damage through appropriate channels.
Requirements
- Good standard education, literacy, numerical skills and clear English communication.
- IT literate and comfortable recording data on factory computers.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Live within a 30‑mile radius of YO7 3HE and have own transport.
- Able to lift up to 25 kg and stand for long periods.
- Willingness to undertake training and assist in training colleagues when required.
