Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Band 6 positions on Richard Bright Ward. We are seeking candidates for a permanent post working full time.

We are looking for an experienced renal nurse with excellent knowledge and skills in Nephrology and Transplantation. The role of the Band 6 is integral to the team and therefore strong leadership, communication skills and the ability and willingness to take on new challenges is paramount.

Ideally you should have attain a renal course or equivalent experience, and a standard for student supervision and assessment (Mentorship) and a willingness to develop management and leadership experience.

Richard Bright is a 22 bedded unit mainly caring for Renal Transplant and Simultaneous Kidney and Pancreas transplant patients. It also caters Acute dialysis, peritoneal dialysis and CKD stage 1 to 5.

Our Practice Development Team will assist you, and a tailored training programmed will enhance your learning. We provide a variety of in-house study days and workshops to assist you develop your abilities and improve your education. We have strong ties with King's College London (KCL), which offers a comprehensive selection of postgraduate programmed.

Main duties of the job

Deputise the ward in the absence of the Charge Nurse /Department team and build successful links between key professionals to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.

Manage the department nursing staff in the absence of the Charge Nurse, ensuring the patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.

Be wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence.

Communicate effectively and efficiently and liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that patients receive seamless care within the trust.

Act as a professional Senior staff Nurse and role model to the staff. To apply clinical skills of the highest standard and to take a proactive approach to the development of clinical competence in self and others.

Maximize use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements. You will be involved in ward audit and Accreditation compliance to be able to review data and be applied in clinical area.

Ensure that the departments have adequate resources / equipment to provide an effective service.

Develop and maintain effective channels of communication between all members of the multi disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Maximise use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements.

Monitor monthly budget statements, identifying trends, understanding spending patterns in order to stay in budget and to take action as required.

Comply with the Trust’s standing financial instructions.

Ensure that the departments have adequate resources / equipment to provide an effective service.

Develop and maintain effective channels of communication between all members of the multi disciplinary team.

To ensure the Charge Nurse is informed when changes to circumstances may affect safe competent practice.

Participate in nursing and multi professional research and audit and to implement actions identified from quality initiatives.

Identify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafe environment for patients and staff. To bring instances to the attention of the Charge Nurse/ Matron.

Deputise for the Charge Nurse as appropriate

Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood

Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
2. Practice Assessor/Supervisor /Teaching Qualification
3. Post registration qualification in or demonstrate relevant experience and competence (appropriate area of speciality)

Desirable criteria

4. Renal Course / Equivalent Experience

7. Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners

15. An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice.

Professional/ Statutory Registration

Essential criteria

16. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
