Our client is seeking a General Engineering Workshop Technician / Engineer to support the repair, maintenance, overhaul and upgrade of a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment used in defence environments. This role is ideally suited to a mechanically biased engineer with a strong background in fault finding, refurbishment, and heavy engineering workshop practices.
You will be part of a specialist engineering team providing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) across all aspects of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). The role involves developing and delivering engineering solutions to ensure equipment is surveyed, refurbished and maintained in line with standards, often in situations where Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out self-directed testing, diagnostics, repair, maintenance, modification, calibration and manufacture of equipment down to module and individual component level using approved engineering documentation.

Perform planned and ad-hoc advanced repairs using Approved Source Information (ASI) or OEM technical data.

Survey, refurbish and maintain Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to required standards.
*
Hold self-certification, over-signing, certifying and conditioning responsibilities, including serviceable, unserviceable and scrap status.
*
Supervise, train and over-sign work completed by junior staff, equivalent grades and apprentices.
*
Support feasibility and development activities, including reverse engineering and creation of engineering documentation and test procedures.
*
Provide specialist technical advice where required.
*
Use a range of IT systems and software.
*
Operate within a defined engineering governance framework, ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures and legislation.
*
Support the resolution of Urgent Operational Requirements (UORs), particularly for equipment without OEM support.
*
Work to agreed schedules and budgets, maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Essential Skills & Experience
*
Previous experience in scheduled maintenance and repair within an engineering or workshop environment.
*
Eligibility to meet the criteria for professional registration as EngTech in line with UK-SPEC.

One of the following qualification pathways:
*
Level 4 qualification with an advanced or higher engineering apprenticeship, or
*
Level 3 qualification, a nationally recognised engineering apprenticeship, plus relevant engineering experience within the discipline or specialism
