At National Grid, we keep people connected and society moving. Join us as a Technical Training Delivery Manager – Overhead Lines and find your superpower. This role leads a geographically dispersed team of overhead training professionals across multiple locations.
You will report to the NGED Technical Training Manager and be a key part of the NGED Technical Training Leadership Team. This is a hands on people leadership role, expected to spend time across sites, build a strong local presence and take ownership for delivery outcomes, capability, performance, and culture.
Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the training delivery function, managing a team of professional trainers and supporting their coaching, capability development, and performance.
* Plan and deliver high quality technical training across planning, systems, process, and wider business needs, ensuring QMS alignment and legislative compliance using internal and external trainers.
* Provide strategic leadership for training delivery, setting departmental goals, standards, procedures, and delivery plans aligned to current and future business demands.
* Manage training facilities, assets and learning resources, ensuring they are safe, compliant, well maintained and fit for future requirements.
* Ensure full Health & Safety, Ofsted and Government funded training compliance, including statutory testing, audits, inspections and continuous improvement actions.
* Own performance, quality and financial management, monitoring delivery effectiveness, efficiency, budgets and investment to inform operational decision making.
* Lead demand planning and stakeholder engagement, working closely with Learning Councils, Process & Planning teams, and senior business leaders to define and meet training needs.
* Drive innovation and improvement, leveraging learning technologies and innovative approaches to deliver effective, cost efficient training solutions.
* Manage apprenticeship assessment governance, including assessment delivery and internal verification.
* Represent National Grid externally, engaging with regulators, professional bodies, partners, and industry forums.
* Lead adhoc and strategic training projects in response to emerging business needs.
* Always maintain accountability for learners and training centre safety.
Qualifications
* A proven people leader with experience managing teams or leading complex work activities in an operational or technical environment.
* A recognised Level 3 Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or an appropriate technical qualification such as ONC / HNC or equivalent, or a relevant degree level qualification.
* Credibility within a safety critical environment, with the confidence to set standards, challenge poor practice, and lead by example.
* Excellent communication, planning, and time management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
* Ability to use data and analytics to determine insights, make decisions and drive action.
* Strong IT capability, including effective use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and digital tools.
* Willingness to travel regularly between sites along with a valid driving licence.
Job Details
* Hybrid role with expectation to be in office 2–3 days a week, based at either the Taunton or Tipton office.
* Job requirement company car will be provided for duties.
* Locations: Taunton, Tipton, Eakring & South Wales (multisite role with regular travel).
* Valid UK driving licence required.
* Enhanced DBS check required for the successful candidate.
