Role overview
As Holiday Club Leader, you're the person who sets the tone and runs the day. You'll lead the timetable, oversee registration, manage staff, and ensure safeguarding and behaviour standards are excellent. This role suits experienced coaches and people who work with children in schools (e.g., Teachers, TAs, HLTA, learning mentors, playworkers, youth workers).
Key responsibilities
Leadership & daily operations
* Lead the overall camp day plan: warm welcome, timetable, transitions, breaks, and end-of-day handover.
* Run registration/sign-in/out, ensure accurate attendance, and maintain clear records.
* Allocate groups, staff roles and activity stations; keep ratios and supervision strong at all times.
Activity delivery (multi-activity)
* Deliver and oversee a mix of: multi-sport games, team challenges, fitness circuits, playground games, creative activities, arts & crafts, themed days and mini-tournaments.
* Adapt activities for different ages/abilities and ensure inclusion (SEND-friendly where possible).
* Keep sessions fun, structured and engaging with clear instructions and positive reinforcement.
Team management
* Lead briefings, support coaches/playworkers and junior staff, and set expectations for behaviour/safety.
* Coach the team on how to run activities confidently and manage groups positively.
* Step in to support behaviour incidents, parent queries, or welfare concerns.
Safeguarding, welfare & compliance
* Maintain a strong safeguarding culture and follow procedures for reporting concerns.
* Manage minor accidents/first aid within training; complete incident/accident forms.
* Complete dynamic risk assessments (weather/space/resources) and adjust plans accordingly.
Parent/carer communication
* Be the main point of contact at drop-off/pick-up (friendly, calm, professional).
* Handle questions and signpost escalation where needed.
Essential requirements
* Experience leading groups of children in a school/holiday club/sport/youth setting.
* Confident behaviour management and ability to run a structured day.
* Excellent communication and reliability.
* Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) and ability to provide references.
* Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
* Safeguarding / first aid certificates (or willingness to complete).
* Coaching qualification, childcare/playwork qualification, or school-based experience.
