I am recruiting for a Lead Estimator to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), supporting the delivery of Sizewell C—a world-class, 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station that will generate reliable, low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes for the next 60 years. As part of the CWA, you’ll lead a multi-skilled estimating team, ensuring excellence in cost planning and pricing for the Alliance Services and Plant & Logistics section. You will work at the heart of a unique partnership bringing together the expertise of EDF, government bodies, major construction firms, and local communities—all committed to delivering sustainable energy for generations.
Your role will include:
• Managing and developing a skilled team of Senior Estimators, Estimators, and Assistant Estimators
• Feeding into the Head of Estimating to maintain a consistent approach and ensure quality
• Producing, assuring and presenting robust estimating documentation both internally and externally
• Working closely with stakeholders in planning, procurement and supply chain to build transparent estimates
• Presenting and justifying prices openly to senior leaders and external partners, supporting collaborative decision-making
• Reviewing project drawings and specifications to prepare accurate cost sheets for materials, labour and equipment
• Assessing design options and value solutions, recommending the most attractive project outcomes
• Recording assumptions, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting risk evaluation
• Overseeing development and supervision of pricing within our Estimating Software (Candy) and quantification software (Cost X)
• Tracking changes and ensuring budgets remain current as inputs mature
What I am looking for:
• Proficiency with Excel and similar estimating tools, with strong communication skills
• A solid background with infrastructure main contractors in civil engineering
• Experience with Candy Estimating Software and RIB Cost X highly desirable
• Knowledge of AACE principles and flexible approach to project delivery
• Chartered status with ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB (preferred)
• Demonstrable ability to foster a collaborative, respectful and solution-driven team culture
