This position is pivotal in providing high-quality financial reporting, insightful business partnering, and operational support to the Finance Director and wider management team. The successful candidate will also play a key role in developing the finance team in India and strengthening controls and processes across the business
Financial Controller - Benefits

* Support in the production of timely and accurate monthly management accounts.
* Review the cashflow forecasts to ensure sufficient long term liquidity and effective treasury management with the bank or other finance solutions.
* Support month-end processes, including posting of journals, accruals, prepayments, and ensuring all balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled each.
* Ensure timely resolution of reconciling items and continuous improvement of reconciliation processes.
* Support the Finance Director and Finance Manager in preparing the annual budget and quarterly reforecasts.
* Ensure all HMRC reporting requirements are met (VAT, PAYE, P11Ds, Corporation Tax), liaising with external advisors as needed.
* Ensure timely and accurate completion of Office for National Statistics (ONS) and other external reporting requirements.
* Support and develop the Finance Assistant and Finance Manager in India to enhance the management accounting.
Business Partnering
* Provide Project Managers with clear, actionable reports on spend for their sites to support financial oversight and cost control.
* Produce additional reporting and analysis on major projects to assist the Finance Director and operational teams in tracking performance, managing budgets, and understanding cost drivers.
* Monitor and report on liquidated damages liabilities, highlighting key sites where exposure is building and supporting mitigation efforts.
* Lead bi-monthly job log reviews to ensure timely and accurate charging of works, safeguarding revenue and cashflow.
* Deliver ad hoc and regular financial analysis to support pricing decisions, investment appraisals, and operational initiatives.
* Build strong relationships with operational and project teams to foster financial awareness, accountability, and effective decision-making.
* Support the Finance Director in developing the Finance Manager in India, providing coaching on best practice financial management, controls, and reporting standards.
Compliance & Governance
* Maintain and update financial controls, policies, and procedures in line with company standards, ISO 9001 requirements, and regulatory obligations.
* Ensure the company meets all statutory reporting requirements and audit expectations, acting as a key point of contact for auditors, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders.
* Identify and implement improvements to systems and processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and resilience.
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
* Experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role within an SME or mid-sized organisation.
* Strong technical accounting knowledge with proven experience in management reporting, cashflow management, budgeting, and forecasting.
* Demonstrable experience of managing statutory reporting obligations, including HMRC (VAT, PAYE, P11Ds, Corporation Tax) and ONS submissions.
* Skilled in managing month-end and year-end close, audit preparation, and maintaining internal controls.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working across teams and clearly conveying financial information to non-finance colleagues.
* High level of competence in Excel and familiarity with accounting systems (Xero preferred).
