Toolmaker / Engineering Technician
About the Role
A vacancy has arisen within a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing environment in Bridgwater. This is a hands‑on role within a high‑precision workshop supporting the manufacture, repair, and maintenance of tooling used in advanced production processes.
The organisation operates in a technically demanding sector supplying engineered components for a wide range of industrial applications. The working environment is modern, structured, and focused on quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
This role is based fully on‑site in Bridgwater.
Working Hours
* Day shift: 08:00 - 16:30
* Rotating shift pattern:
o 06:00 - 14:00
o 14:00 - 22:00
Key Responsibilities
* Manufacture, repair, and refurbish precision tooling to tight tolerances using engineering drawings
* Operate manual and CNC machining equipment, including ProTrak-style CNC milling machines
* Interpret technical drawings and collaborate with design/engineering teams to develop tooling solutions
* Support the introduction of new tooling and modifications for evolving production requirements
* Troubleshoot tooling and manufacturing issues, providing practical engineering solutions
* Contribute to continuous improvement and process optimisation activities
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment in line with safety procedures
* Support maintenance activities when required
* Mentor and support junior team members and apprentices where appropriate
Candidate Requirements
* Apprenticeship-trained or equivalent qualification in engineering or toolmaking
* Proven experience in precision machining, toolmaking, or fabrication
* Strong background in high‑precision, low‑tolerance manufacturing
* Experience with both CNC and manual machining equipment
* Familiarity with ProTrak-type CNC milling systems is highly desirable
* Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
* Strong problem‑solving ability with a practical, hands‑on approach
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
* Good communication and teamwork skills
* Able to manage workload effectively and work independently when required
