Yard Controller – River Road Garage (Internal only) Go-Ahead London is the capital’s largest bus operator with approximately 7,500 colleagues working from 16 locations, mainly in the South and South East of London, we are committed to providing a high-quality passenger experience on almost 160 routes operated under contract to Transport for London (TfL). We run just under a quarter of the London bus network using 2,450 buses and provide an essential public service. A vacancy has arisen for a Run-Out Controller based at River Road garage. The purpose of the role is to ensure the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians within the depot whilst at all times having regard for the company safety policies. This includes supervising the run-in and run-out in accordance with the local requirements and ensuring that the vehicle cleanliness and driver presentation standards are achieved at all times. Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager(s), some of the primary tasks are detailed below: Ensuring all driving colleagues are carrying out pre-service vehicle inspections to the required standard and issuing guidance and advice where appropriate. Building strong working relationships with both Engineering & Operating colleagues to ensure that there is a consistent team approach to achieving the required performance so Go Ahead maintains and builds upon its current position within the London Bus market. Actively promote Go-Ahead’s Safety Principles at all times. Ensuring all visitors (including deliveries) comply with the local H&S requirements. Ensuring the required audits are carried out in a timely manner and accurately. Ensuring the timely prompt departures from the depot as well the monitoring and supervising meal reliefs and changeovers as appropriate. Managing all vehicle parking within the depot to ensure that all drivers adhere to H&S procedures. Undertaking any additional reasonable duties at the request of your Line Manager. Undertaking any training and development activities at the request of your Line Manager. Monitoring charge levels throughout the shift, as well as plugging and unplugging vehicles to ensure services depart on time. You will be required to work a 38-hour week; however, you must be prepared to take a flexible approach to your working hours. The role will include shift work and you will be working five days over seven, including weekends. It is essential that you can demonstrate a full understanding of the Health and Safety requirements of the company. It is essential you are a strong communicator particularly verbal as you will need to communicate with a wide variety of people. You will need to be able to demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving as well as a good strong understanding of bus operations. Please note, this will be a four weekly position and successful applicants will be at supervisory level, with a competitive salary.
