About the Role
We’re looking for a Data Governance Manager to join our Data team within the Technology directorate. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping Alzheimer’s Society become a truly data-informed organisation, ensuring that data is trusted, well‑managed, and used responsibly to maximise our impact for people affected by dementia.
At Alzheimer’s Society, we are advisors, supporters, fundraisers, researchers, influencers, communicators, technical specialists, and so much more. Together, we’re united by a shared mission: to end the devastation caused by dementia.
Data sits at the heart of everything we do. From understanding the needs of the people we support, to evaluating the impact of our services and research, high‑quality data enables better decisions and better outcomes. As Data Governance Manager, you’ll help shape and embed the governance practices, frameworks, and culture that allow data to be used confidently, ethically, and effectively across the Society.
Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you’ll support data quality improvement, governance initiatives, compliance activities, and the development of data ownership and accountability. You’ll also play a key role in the Data Lighthouse Initiative, bringing together data champions from across the Society to drive practical improvements and strengthen our data culture.
We’re looking for someone who lives our values: determined to make a difference, a trusted expert, committed to working better together, and showing genuine compassion.
About You
You’re passionate about data governance and understand the important role that high‑quality, well‑managed data plays in organisational success. You enjoy bringing people together, influencing positive change, and helping colleagues understand their role in maintaining trusted data.
You’re equally comfortable discussing governance frameworks and data quality processes as you are engaging non‑technical stakeholders and translating complex concepts into practical guidance. You have a collaborative approach, strong attention to detail, and a genuine interest in helping organisations improve the way they manage and use data.
You’re proactive, organised, and committed to continuous improvement. Most importantly, you’re motivated by the opportunity to use your expertise to support a cause that truly matters.
You'll Have
* Experience supporting or implementing data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and best practices
* Strong understanding of data quality management, including identifying root causes and implementing sustainable improvements
* Knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and broader data governance and compliance requirements
* Experience engaging and influencing stakeholders across a range of business functions and levels
* The ability to communicate complex data governance concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences
* Experience developing and delivering training, guidance, or awareness initiatives
* Understanding of metadata management, data catalogues, data dictionaries, and data ownership principles
* Experience supporting data‑related governance forums, working groups, or communities of practice
* An interest in emerging topics such as data ethics, AI governance, and responsible data use
What you’ll Focus on
* Supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Society’s data governance framework
* Maintaining and promoting data governance policies, standards, and guidance across the organisation
* Supporting data governance boards, working groups, and governance activities
* Driving improvements in data quality through monitoring, root cause analysis, and targeted interventions
* Maintaining data catalogues, data dictionaries, and metadata management processes to improve data discoverability and trust
* Playing a key role in the Data Lighthouse Initiative, supporting a network of data champions across the Society
* Facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing to build a strong culture of data ownership and accountability
* Supporting compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and other relevant regulations
* Contributing to Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), data sharing arrangements, and governance reviews
* Supporting the development of ethical approaches to data use, including AI and advanced analytics governance
* Delivering training, guidance, and communications to improve data literacy and governance awareness
* Working with stakeholders across the organisation to embed good data practices into day‑to‑day activities
