TXM Recruit are working with a leading Rolling Stock engineering company to recruit a Product Support Engineer to join their field-based support team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong diesel engine maintenance experience who enjoys hands‑on fault‑finding, customer interaction, and working independently across varied locations.
The Role
As a Product Support Engineer, you will provide technical support to customers across multiple sites, responding to warranty‑related callouts and ensuring diesel power units operate efficiently and reliably. You will work across Cummins and MTU power units, diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring trains and equipment are returned to service quickly and safely.
Key Responsibilities
* Respond to callouts for warranty and maintenance support on power units.
* Diagnose and repair engine and component faults using structured procedures.
* Replace faulty components and complete functional testing before sign‑off.
* Communicate effectively with customers and internal engineering teams.
* Complete accurate reports and documentation following all interventions.
* Ensure safe, high‑quality service delivery at all times.
Training & Development
During your first 12 weeks, you'll receive comprehensive onboarding and training:
* Week 1-2: Shadowing warranty checks with engineering teams at Barton.
* Weeks 3-12: Working alongside resident engineers at Etches Park to gain hands‑on experience across a range of power units.
* End of training: Competency sign‑off to carry out independent field support work.
About You
We're looking for someone with a strong background in heavy diesel engine maintenance, ideally from industries such as rail, bus, military, or marine.
Essential experience and skills
* ONC / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
* Proven experience maintaining and fault‑finding on diesel power units.
* Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic abilities.
* Confident communicator with excellent problem‑solving skills.
* Competent using laptops/tablets for reporting and diagnostics.
* Able to work independently with a flexible approach to travel and callouts.
