Wecurrently have Level 4 Healthcare Science Apprenticeship posts availablewithin the Medical Physics and Engineering Department in Leeds.
Thesuccessful candidates will participate in a 2 year training programmespecialising in Medical Engineering.Formal training will be provided and apprentices will develop personaland professional skills whilst also developing skills and knowledge relatingto the installation, maintenance, repair and management of medical equipment.
Successfulcompletion of the apprenticeship will qualify candidates to apply for andprogress their careers within our Medical Physics and Engineering Department.
Main duties of the job
Asa Medical Engineering Apprentice at Leeds Teaching Hospitals you can expectto work in many different Medical Engineering disciplines across the LTHsites.
Someof the areas you will work in are Clinical Engineering, Renal Engineering,Imaging Engineering, Radiation Engineering and Rehabilitation Engineering.
Youwill develop a broad range of skills which will prepare you for a successfulcareer in your chosen area of Medical Physics & Engineering.
Alongsideyour practical training you will undertake a work based Level 4 Qualificationin Healthcare Science Apprenticeship training programme specialising inMedical Engineering.

Educationand Training
Thejobholder must participate fully in the training programme by:

Apart of their training role, the jobholder must undertake formal qualifications, typically:
* Functional skills certificates in literacy, numeracy and ICT
Technical(under supervision)
* Assist in the provision of basic technical services including equipment installation, repair, maintenance and calibration.
* Assist in equipment planned preventative maintenance activity.
* Assist in the production of devices in accordance with local procedures and technical instructions.
Quality Assurance (under supervision)
* Participate in the local quality management system and comply with its policies, procedures and instructions.
* Assist quality related tasks such as audit, document management and corrective action.
* Assist in quality assurance and quality control activity on medical equipment.
* Carry out internal resource management tasks such as work equipment maintenance and calibration.
Medical Equipment Management
* Be aware of the safety aspects of any medical device or related equipment with which they may be involved
* Report discrepancies, incidents, identified risks and hazards and take action to resolve them under supervision.
Develop good working relationships
* Develop good communication skills that demonstrate courtesy and respect including answering the telephone and passing on messages.
* Support effective teamwork by undertaking other technical activities, under direct supervision, that would be expected of assistant and associated practitioners.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A-C) including English, Maths and a Science or equivalent qualifications.
* A Levels / BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science, Design Technology, Information Technology or Engineering
Experience
* Must have good basic engineering skills and good standards of workmanship.
* Good use of tools and test equipment

* Good interpersonal skills both verbal and non-verbal communication.
* Committed to completing the HCS apprenticeship in Medical Engineering.
