JOB TITLE: HOUSING DISREPAIR PARALEGAL
SALARY: £25,000 - £26,000
HOURS OF WORK: 9am – 5.30pm
BENEFITS: 24+stat holidays – Death in Service x 3, Group Pension plan and Healthcare cash plan
We are seeking a capable and driven individual to join our team as a Housing Disrepair Paralegal. You will be responsible for managing a caseload from instruction through to settlement. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in Landlord housing disrepair claims and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Main Purpose of the role:
Reporting directly to the fee earners, provide support to him/her and to the team as directed
JOB DESCRIPTION:
* Handle a full caseload of housing disrepair matters from instruction to resolution
* Dealing with residential landlord and tenant work.
* Dealing with rent possession work, arising as a result of the service of a Section 8 or Section 21 Notice under the Act.
* Dealing with cases where tenants try to defend claims
* Manage cases independently from instruction to settlement.
* Liaise with clients, landlords, solicitors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective and professional communication.
* Handling allegations of disrepair at the property and tackling such a Defence
* Handling enquiries made by landlords experiencing difficulties with tenants.
* Dealing with issues relating to the Housing Act 1988 (as amended) (“the Act”).
* Build strong client relationships through consistent communication
* Attend client meetings and assist in preparation for court hearings.
* Draft legal documents including letters of claim, court forms, and pleadings in compliance with court rules and deadlines.
* Issue court proceedings and manage files through litigation to conclusion.
* Conduct legal research and gather evidence to support claims.
* Review and prepare witness statements and supporting documentation.
* Participate in mediations and liaise with counsel as needed.
* Maintain confidence and professionalism when representing clients in dispute resolution matters.
* Maintain accurate records and case notes in compliance with legal standards.
* Use case management systems (e.g. Proclaim) effectively and in line with internal procedures.
* Process case files efficiently and ensure deadlines are met.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
* Looking for a candidate who has solid experience in dealing with residential landlord and tenant cases
* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Previous experience in Housing Disrepair is essential

* Proficient in using case management systems—experience with Proclaim is particularly beneficial.
* Solid litigation experience and sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Housing Act 1988
* Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and diary management.
* Strong written and verbal communication, with a client-focused and empathetic approach.
* Proactive, adaptable, and calm under pressure, with good problem-solving abilities
