Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team of 11 consultants in Respiratory Medicine, providing support to two purpose-built wards and an outpatient service delivered in a respiratory centre. The centre offers respiratory physiology and a team of experienced clinical nurse specialists. Consultants are supported by junior medical staff and specialist trainees. The Trust has an established Senior Clinical Fellowship Programme and houses two posts within Respiratory Medicine.
Key Clinical Services
RWT hosts a number of specialist respiratory services, including COPD, ILD, lung cancer, sleep and ventilation, TB, difficult asthma, and cystic fibrosis. Most clinics are now subspecialty clinics delivered in a purpose‑built respiratory centre with real‑time physiology, physiotherapy and respiratory nursing support; further respiratory clinics are delivered at Cannock.
In‑patient Facilities
Two purpose-built wards, including dedicated RSU beds, provide enhanced clinical and respiratory support, including acute NIV, tracheostomy care and HFNO.
Out‑patient Services
Out‑patient clinics are delivered in a purpose‑built respiratory outpatient department at New Cross and at Cannock Chase Hospital, with a mix of specialist and general respiratory clinics, including the following subspecialties:
* Sleep and ventilation
* Bronchiectasis
* Interstitial Lung Disease (tertiary centre)
* Cystic fibrosis
* TB
* Lung cancer
* Severe asthma
* Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
* Pleural diseases
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the bronchoscopy and/or EBUS rota, work flexibly with consultant colleagues, and provide cover as outlined in the rota. The role requires support across in‑patient and out‑patient services, participating in multidisciplinary care for respiratory patients.
Desired Interests / Qualifications
We are looking for a consultant with an interest in Interstitial Lung Disease and cystic fibrosis, though flexibility is provided to accommodate other interests. Informal discussion is welcome.
