Job overview
This is a new post to enhance the already excellent Dermatology services of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust based at Southlands, Worthing and St Richard’s Hospitals. The primary role of the Dermatologist is to manage patients with high‑risk skin cancers and complex medical dermatology cases. The successful candidate will actively participate in the development of the Dermatology service at UHS, working closely with the established team across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
* Responsibility for seeing patients in out‑patients, attending wards for reviews at the request of the in‑patient teams, and developing the service to provide a high quality and patient‑centred experience.
* Contributing to the training of nurses and other staff, and participating in the activities of the Postgraduate Medical Centre including medical audit.
* Undertaking administrative duties associated with the care of the patients, and helping run the clinical department.

* Strong critical and analytical thinking to objectively evaluate each case and provide the correct diagnosis.
* A flexible approach to new possible treatments, particularly in complex cases or where research is inconclusive.
* Strong problem‑solving skills to decide on the appropriate treatment plans.
* A willingness to collaborate with other specialists to provide the best possible treatments for clients.
* Professional conduct, including confidentiality and delivering patients excellent health care.
* The ability to remain calm and professional in crisis situations.
* Excellent physical and mental health to cope with long hours and emotional strains of the job.
Experience & qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or eligibility for registration within six months of the interview.
* If trained in the UK, possession of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Dermatology or expected to receive it within six months of the interview date.
* If trained outside the UK, evidence that qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT, confirmed by the GMC by the date of application completion.
Clinical skills & experience
* Completion of dermatology Higher Specialty Training to CCT level.
* Experience in General Medicine.
* Evidence of undertaking personal development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
Knowledge
* Broad experience in and outside the specialty.

* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams.
* Understanding of NHS clinical governance and resource constraints.
* Evidence of managerial skills: achievements or courses attended.
