Senior Occupational Therapist – Older Adult Mental Health Service, Caerphilly Borough
Job Overview
A new opportunity has arisen for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Older Adult Mental Health Service within Caerphilly borough. The post holder will be ward based with opportunities for community work. You will lead effective occupational therapy assessment, intervention, and evaluation in the inpatient setting, support timely discharge planning as part of a multidisciplinary team, and collaborate closely with the occupational therapy team.
Main duties
* Identify occupational therapy needs for service users on the ward through specialist assessments, goal planning, and interventions, and evaluate effectiveness using outcome measures.
* Communicate and collaborate with all MDT members, promoting the inpatient occupational therapy service.
* Support safe, person-centred discharge planning with MDT, persons and families/carers.
* Supervise and support two Band 3 occupational therapy support workers, planning and delegating tasks.
* Contribute to service development and identify training needs.
Education and training
* Degree in Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC registration.
* Commitment to lifelong learning and up‑to‑date portfolio.
Essential criteria – Credentials and experience
* Relevant post‑registration experience in older adult mental health.
* Supervision experience of junior staff and students.
* Extensive clinical experience including individual and group work.
* Experience of carrying out research or audit.
* Experience across a range of settings.
* Leadership experience.
* Specialist knowledge of OT assessments and interventions relevant to older adult mental health.
* Detailed knowledge of outcome measures.
* Planning and coordination of treatment packages.
* Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues.
* Detailed knowledge of legislation in current practice.
* Knowledge and application of clinical governance.
* Knowledge of health and safety/risk management policies.
