We are seeking a Deputy Editor to help shape the editorial voice of Food Manufacture, a leading B2B title in the vibrant world of food and drink manufacturing. Food Manufacture has established itself as the premier resource for food and drink processors. As the industry’s go-to source for exclusive commentary and in-depth analysis, we continue to support decision-makers with the latest developments and insights.

As Deputy Editor, you’ll be at the forefront of our daily publishing efforts, crafting insightful news, analysis, and profiles that inform and inspire. Working closely with the Editor, you’ll play a key role in driving our digital and events strategy, bringing fresh ideas to the table backed by data and audience insight.

What you’ll be doing:
1. Delivering content in a range of digital formats (written/audio/video), covering a wide range of topics
2. Analysing content performance to ensure audience needs are met and identify any potential commercial opportunities
3. Managing the newsletters, including content creation and prioritising the order of stories based on audience insights and engagement
4. Interviewing industry representatives and liaising with communication teams to deliver original, thought-provoking content with leading insight
5. Networking with industry professionals to build up a portfolio of strong, key contacts for speaking and feature opportunities
6. Representing the brand at industry events and travelling to cover stories and conduct visits (for example to F&B factories)
7. Playing a role in developing new ideas for podcasts, webinars and roundtables
8. Participating in live events and hosting webinars, on-stage discussions, breakfast briefings and other sessions
9. Liaising with the commercial team around sponsored content and events
10. Researching and contacting prospects for events
11. Deputising for Editor when and where required
12. Supporting with and attending Food Manufacture’s annual excellence awards night
Requirements
What you’ll need:
13. Strong, imaginative journalist with a proven record of producing engaging and informative content, and demonstrated experience in covering fast-paced developments; B2B, trade media or food focused media brand experience is highly desirable
14. Qualification in journalism or degree-level education in English, or a relevant field (or equivalent experience)
15. Ability to translate complex business concepts, facts and figures into clear and compelling stories, and comfortable covering a variety of topics from politics to food science, to regulation and legal issues
16. Brilliant news sense with a keen interest in, and industry knowledge of, the food, drink and manufacturing industries
17. Outstanding attention to detail, with solid research and investigation skills, as well as an aptitude for analysing data and providing actionable insights for the publication
18. Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills with self-drive and ability to set own agenda and work at pace to tight deadlines and independently, whilst also having a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork
19. Exceptional communication, interpersonal and presenting skills with a proactive approach to engaging and networking with both internal and external senior stakeholders (in person and via email and phone), and a proven track record of contact building
20. A curious and adaptable mindset, with the persistence to follow leads, verify facts and obtain fresh angles
21. Proactive, strategic and committed to growing the publication, who is eager to learn and enthusiastic with creative ideas for content and events
22. Willingness to travel to cover stories, and attend meetings and events in the UK and internationally
