Overview
The department of Trauma and Orthopaedics of University Hospitals Sussex is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon. The sub-specialty interest should be in General & Lower Limb Trauma, including Primary Hip & Knee arthroplasty. This is a 10 PA substantive post, and the successful candidate is expected to be in post by 1st April 2026. The post is based at Worthing and St Richard's hospital, with expectation to travel and provide services across all sites of University Hospitals Sussex.
Join us during an exciting period in our evolution following mergers that created University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust. We are transforming Trauma services with a vision to create two major Non-Ambulatory Fragility Fracture units to lead pathways ensuring excellent and equitable NHS care. The post holder will support the department in providing general trauma with a focus on Non-Ambulatory Fragility Fractures and Primary Hip and Knee arthroplasty.
The post holder will have full participation in the Consultant of the week general trauma on-call rota and may be based at Worthing or St Richard’s hospital, currently under review. The post holder will be expected to work across all Trust sites to provide outpatient fracture clinics, theatre trauma lists, inpatient ward rounds, and elective Orthopaedic hip & knee arthroplasty lists. The post holder is also expected to actively contribute to the Post Graduate Medical Centre by delivering regular teaching and training to junior medical staff.
Responsibilities
* Provide general trauma care with a sub-specialty focus on General & Lower Limb Trauma and Primary Hip & Knee arthroplasty.
* Work across Worthing and St Richard’s Hospital and across all University Hospitals Sussex sites as required by clinical need.
* Participate in outpatient fracture clinics, theatre trauma lists, and inpatient ward rounds; contribute to elective hip & knee arthroplasty lists.
* Engage in the Consultant of the Week on-call rota for general trauma.
* Deliver regular teaching and training to junior medical staff through the Post Graduate Medical Centre.
* Support the transformation of Trauma services and participation in service development initiatives.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Sub-specialty interest in General & Lower Limb Trauma, including Primary Hip & Knee Arthroplasty.
* 10 PA substantive post; expected to be in post by 1 April 2026.
* Willingness to travel across all sites of University Hospitals Sussex as needed for clinical services.
