About this Role Food and Nutrition Technician Main Duties / Responsibilities: 1. Preparing equipment and teaching areas for practical activities: · Health & Safety is an essential role in preparation of a safe teaching environment. · Prepare ingredients. · Prepare for and clear away demonstrations. · Ensure equipment is ready and available. · Tidying up and checking equipment. · Cleaning surfaces, cookers, sinks etc. · Laundering of tea towels and dish cloths. · Ensuring clean aprons are available. 2. Helping pupils to get the most of out of learning experiences: · Supporting the teaching and learning. · Assisting pupils with practical tasks. 3. Carrying out administrative and other functions related to the effective and efficient running of the department · Stock control. · Ordering ingredients, equipment etc. · Checking deliveries. · Photocopying, printing. · Occasional shopping for practical lesson supplies 4. Maintaining equipment and teaching areas: · Minimising the risk of bacterial contamination · Ensuring a safe environment. · Carrying out safety checks. · Maintaining equipment. · Assisting with hygiene and safety checks. · Cleaning fridges and checking temperatures. · Ensuring pupils ingredients and food products are stored at the correct temperature. Person specification: • At least five GCSE passes, including English and Maths. • Have a food handling qualification • Experience of using a computer for basic administration. • Previous experience of working in a school • Previous experience of working with children • Full driving licence with access to a car during school day • Awareness of basic food hygiene standards • General skills in food preparation techniques • Able to work as a team and share ideas constructively • Resilient, adaptable and proactive. • Good organisational skills and initiative with a capacity to work independently and autonomously when necessary. • Good time management - balances preparation, lesson support and cleanup efficiently withing tight school schedules. • A genuine concern for young people and a desire to see them learn and succeed. • Ability to maintain confidentiality in and out of the work place. • Child friendly approach - Understands how to engage with young learners in a respectful, encouraging, and approachable manner.
