Teaching Assistant – SEND Schools
Location: South Shields, Tyne and Wear
Pay: £14.24 per hour (pre-AWR)
Start Date: April 2026
Contract: Flexible Supply – Full-Time & Part-Time Available

Vision for Education is currently recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant to work across SEND provisions in South Shields, supporting pupils with a range of needs including Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), and other learning difficulties.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in supportive, well-resourced environments where staff work collaboratively to provide inclusive, structured, and nurturing education. You will play a key role in helping pupils engage with learning, develop emotional regulation, and build confidence both academically and socially.
The Role
1. Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
2. Assisting with the delivery of tailored learning activities
3. Promoting engagement, independence, and positive behaviour
4. Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and wellbeing
5. Working closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement support strategies
The Ideal Teaching Assistant Will Have:
6. Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly ASC or SEMH
7. A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to supporting complex needs
8. Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
9. The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
10. A proactive and adaptable approach within the classroom
11. Excellent communication and teamwork skills
