Job overview

The Clinical Trials Team are seeking a highly organised and proactive Clinical Trials Assistant. The Clinical Trials Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Research Delivery Team to deliver high quality research across a range of specialties. The post holder will assist in the identification, recruitment and management of clinical trial participants, ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), study protocols and local SOPs.

This role will involve a combination of clinical, laboratory, and administrative tasks, including assisting with data collection, sample handling, and coordination of study visits. The post holder will work closely with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the safe and effective delivery of research that improves patient care and advances medical knowledge.


Main duties of the job

To manage simple studies with support from the wider research team.

The role will include clinical duties such as taking participant vital signs, ECGs, venepuncture, processing and storage of trial samples and assisting with completion of questionnaires.

The role will also include data management as well as other administrative tasks.

Person specification


Education & Qualifications

* English and Maths GCSE, or equivalent
* Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent experience to vocational qualification Level 3
* ICH – GCP (Good Clinical Practice) or willingness to undertake


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

* Effective written and oral communication skills
* Computer literacy within a range of applications (including basic keyboard skills, MS Office)
* Understand the importance of confidentiality, dignity and respect in relation to both staff and patients
* Ability to accurately transcribe data from one source to another (e.g. written / electronic system onto paper / electronic report)
* Meticulous attention to detail and quality
* Able to follow instructions, guidelines, policies and standards to provide a safe and effective service to others
* Able to work autonomously and organise themselves to manage own workload
* Venepuncture competency or willingness to undertake
* Laboratory skills such as centrifuge, pipetting
* Familiarity with medical or scientific terminology


Experience

* Experience working within healthcare
* Experience of working with the public or people form a range of backgrounds
* Knowledge of healthcare research
* Experience working within the NHS
