Overview
The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency ofDefra responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK. This vacancy is for a Veterinary Advisor in the AMR Surveillance & Evidence team, to support interventions that reduce the impact of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on animal and human health. The role helps deliver Defra’s commitments in the UK AMR National Action Plan (NAP) by providing robust evidence to understand, detect, and respond to AMR risks.

Qualifications
Minimum
* A veterinary degree is required.
Memberships
* Candidates should be a member or eligible to be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
Responsibilities and requirements
* Have an understanding of antimicrobial resistance and its importance in veterinary and One Health contexts.
* Demonstrate epidemiological expertise and ability to code in R, as shown by a relevant postgraduate qualification and/or equivalent work experience.
* Communicate scientific concepts to different audiences, including non-specialists.
* Collaborate with others to deliver outcomes.
* Understand large or small animal practice, or government veterinary services, in the UK context.
