Job Description:
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the organisation’s network infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and security. This role focuses on supporting reliable connectivity across enterprise environments by monitoring network operations, resolving issues, and managing changes. The Network Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and secure network solutions that support business operations and service delivery.
Job Role and Responsibilities:
* Design, implement and maintain network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, VPN, wireless and fibre-based networks.
* Configure and manage networking equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers.
* Monitor network performance, capacity and availability using industry-standard tools.
* Diagnose and resolve network faults, connectivity issues and service disruptions in a timely manner.
* Support network planning, installation and deployment activities.
* Manage network security including firewalls, access controls, intrusion detection and data protection measures.
* Perform system upgrades, patching, and configuration changes in line with change management processes.
* Maintain accurate technical documentation including network diagrams, configurations and SOPs.
* Collaborate with internal teams, field engineers and third-party vendors to deliver network solutions.
* Support incident management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with IT governance, data protection and cybersecurity standards.
* Provide technical support and guidance to end users and junior staff.
* Participate in disaster recovery planning and business continuity processes.
Required Technical Skills & Experience:
* Minimum 8+ years of experience in network engineering with a strong focus on network infrastructure design, implementation, and support.
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (mandatory).
* Strong expertise in network design and architecture (LAN/WAN, access networks).
* Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing, and switching technologies.
* Experience in network monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
* Hands‑on experience in incident management, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
* Familiarity with network configuration, upgrades, and change management processes.
* Knowledge of network security principles, data protection, and compliance requirements.
* Hands‑on experience with tools such as PIPeR, LLUMS, GeoHub, SRIMS, NGWFMT, Orion, Ghost Plan.
* Proficiency in MS Excel, SharePoint, and reporting/data analysis tools.
* Experience working in SLA‑driven environments with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders effectively.
