Mental Health Practitioner (Band 6) – Adel Beck Secure Children's Home, Leeds
Join Cheswold Park Hospital/ South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust as part of the Secure CAMHS team. The role involves building therapeutic relationships with young people, assessing risk and mental health needs, and coordinating care with multi-disciplinary colleagues and partner agencies. Opportunities to develop and run therapeutic groups and provide 1:1 interventions, within an experienced multidisciplinary team and under supportive leadership.
Responsibilities
* Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with mental health needs.
* Work autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, including consultation for other agencies/professionals.
* Be part of CAMHS first on-call rota; participate in safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
* Offer screening assessments for newly arrived young people; attend meetings reviewing risk to self or others.
* Provide person-centered assessments of mental health needs and risk, including screening for neurodevelopmental needs.
* Develop and contribute to care plans and interventions within policies and supervision guidelines.
* Use information systems (e.g., Rio, System One) to ensure high-quality data collection and confidentiality.
* Engage in clinical audit, governance, and service improvement activities.
* Support engagement of service stakeholders and users in care planning and delivery; promote user/carer involvement.
* Work flexibly to support extended hours and inter-agency collaboration for coherent services and appropriate transitions.
Qualifications & Experience
* Substantial post-qualification experience, including work with children/young people and their carers in mental health or complex care settings.
* Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork, inter-agency liaison and consultation, and working with CAMHS.
* Understanding of relevant legislation and guidelines (e.g., NHS plan, Mental Health Act, Children Act, Working Together, Every Child Matters).
* Clinical/therapeutic knowledge of mental health and behavioral problems, risk assessment/management, and evidence-based practice.
* Experience with research methodology and audits; ability to work with service users and other organisations.
Training & Professional Development
* Training and experience relating to specialist CAMHS.
* On-going professional development, supervision/mentorship, and membership of professional bodies.
Skills & Personal Attributes
* Good verbal and written communication; negotiation and problem-solving skills.
* Customer service orientation; ability to write clear reports; effective team working across disciplines.
* Autonomous work style with the ability to work under pressure; calm, confident, innovative, and adaptable.

* Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day (reasonable adjustments considered).

* UK professional registration required.
