Sustainability Consultant or Senior Consultant (Whole Life Carbon)

Responsibilities
* Provide expertise in whole life carbon assessments and Circular Economy for the built environment.
* Develop site specific whole life carbon appraisals using in house tools and OneClick LCA software.
* Develop site specific BREEAM Mat 01 appraisals.
* Lead focused workshops with design teams and clients to:
o Guide and agree on whole life carbon targets.
o Agree strategies to reduce whole life carbon emissions.
o Agree strategies to embed Circular Economy as part of design and operational decisions.
* Lead focused workshops with contractors to review whole life carbon assessment and guide them in achieving agreed targets, undertaking construction stage monitoring and reporting.
* Lead focused whole life carbon and circular economy workshops with local authorities where necessary e.g. as part of design review or planning approvals.
* Support and/or lead in house Technical Excellence communities in advancing the firm’s knowledge.
* Participate in other core sustainability consultancy deliverables such as:
o Delivery of environmental and wellbeing assessments (e.g. BREEAM, WELL, HQM) from early design stages through project completion/post construction.
o Undertake a range of modelling and assessments including building performance simulation (Part L, operational energy estimates, overheating).
o Support and/or lead development of energy and sustainability strategies to lead sustainability innovation.
o Support training of junior team members.
* Opportunity to undertake project leadership for the Discipline on small to medium scale projects within whole life carbon or circular economy workstreams.
* Engage directly with industry, undertaking research & development studies, and authoring industry guidance.
Qualifications
* Experience working within the built environment sector.
* Professional background in sustainability or engineering consultancy.
* Degree in engineering or science and experience in whole life carbon.
* Good communication skills and enthusiasm for team work.
* Passion for sustainability and desire to work within a dynamic team.
Core competencies
* Whole life carbon assessments (embodied & operational) using OneClick or other methods.
* Understanding of industry guidance, including RICS Whole Life Carbon Professional Statement v1/v2, UK Green Building Council, IStructE and LETI.
* Circular Economy Statements.
* Energy and sustainability strategies for planning/design development.
* Environmental and wellbeing appraisals (BREEAM, WELL, Fitwel).
* Energy performance modelling (ApacheHVAC, Building Reg Part L, NABERS, Passivhaus).
* Delivery of successful planning applications and local authority collaboration, especially experience in London.
