An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Interventional Neuroradiology (INR) to join a highly experienced and expanding team of neuroradiologists in the East Midlands. The regional neurointervention centre serves a population of approximately 4 million and currently performs 280–300 neurointervention procedures and 130–150 mechanical thrombectomies (MT) annually.

The post is ideal for candidates with a passion for advanced neurovascular intervention, education, and research. The unit is actively involved in multiple national and international trials, including the ESCAPE-MeVO and recently concluded ProFate trial, and has ambitious plans to deliver a 24/7 MT service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical

1. Provide comprehensive elective and emergency interventional neuroradiology services in collaboration with consultant colleagues.
2. Deliver expert care to Neurosciences, Head & Neck, and spinal patients referred for interventional procedures.
3. Participate in the on-call neurointervention rota and ensure high-quality cover and patient safety.
4. Contribute to the development of a sustainable 24/7 MT service for hyperacute stroke patients.
5. Provide reciprocal cover for colleagues during leave.
6. Maintain continuity of care and uphold departmental clinical standards.
7. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.

Governance and Audit

8. Take an active role in departmental and Trust-wide clinical governance activities, including: Clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives Incident reporting and risk management Engagement with CPD and evidence-based practice
9. Participate in ongoing service development and peer review.

Teaching and Education

10. Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes across both main hospital campuses.
11. Support the teaching and supervision of radiology trainees, medical students, and allied health professionals.
12. Participate in Trust-approved frameworks for trainer development and medical education delivery.

Research

13. Engage in collaborative research with the University of Nottingham and academic institutions.
14. Support existing clinical trials and develop independent research initiatives aligned with the Trust's strategy.
15. Work with the Biomedical Research Centre and imaging partners to foster innovation in neurointervention.
16. Adhere to national research governance frameworks and obtain appropriate approvals for all research activities.

Additional Roles

17. Opportunities to undertake external leadership, education, or advisory roles (e.g. Training Programme Director, Royal College Representative) will be supported, subject to prior discussion and job plan agreement.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Registration

Essential:

18. Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) or equivalent
19. Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
20. Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or CCT, is expected within 6 months of interview.

Desirable:

21. MRCP, MRCS, or other higher medical qualification
22. Additional academic or research qualifications

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential:

23. Completion of a recognised radiology training programme
24. Documented experience in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology
25. Competence in managing emergency and elective neuroradiology cases
26. Familiarity with complex cerebrovascular procedures and thrombectomy techniques

Desirable:

27. Specific training in human factors or patient safety
28. Research publications in thoracic or neurovascular radiology

Teaching and Research

Essential:

29. Evidence of teaching and educational supervision
30. Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives

Desirable:

31. Track record of research activity, preferably with peer-reviewed publications
32. Involvement in clinical trials or academic projects

Management and Leadership

Essential:

33. Experience in service development or change management
34. Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment

Practical Requirements

Essential:

35. Ability to travel between multiple clinical sites across the region
36. The capacity to return promptly to base for on-call responsibilities
