Polypipe Building Services specializes in engineered above‑ground drainage and water supply systems, working with mechanical and public health engineers, M&E contractors and local authorities.
The production shift leader will control all resources and processes within the Injection Moulding and Extrusion areas to ensure safety, engagement and production targets are met. They will identify, document and drive continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
* Use KPIs and SMART objectives to identify gaps in individual and team performance around safety, engagement and OEE, and design improvement actions.
* Apply CI tools such as PDCA to ensure actions are implemented, fine‑tuned and embedded.
* Ensure daily and weekly production demand is met on time, in full, at lowest cost and required quality levels.
* Plan labour requirements based on agreed production schedules and machine loadings.
* Brief the production team on Safe Systems of Work, report near‑misses and conduct incident investigations using Alcumus reporting.
* Chair daily production meetings and manage effective shift handovers.
* Own key departmental improvement initiatives, such as increased recycled material use.
* Maintain high housekeeping standards in the two main production areas.
* Provide monthly reports to the Operations Manager on departmental performance, improvements and significant exceptions.
* Display KPI reports (e.g., OEE) and discuss them with the teams.
* Handle personnel issues including attendance, inductions, conflicts, disciplinary actions, training and overtime.
* Ensure each member of the Extrusion and Moulding team has a monitored personal development plan via the PDR process.
* Plan and coordinate work‑group meetings for each shift team, offering support as needed.
* Support and participate in all factory‑based continuous improvement projects, initiatives and new process introductions.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Experience in production/operational leadership with a strong focus on driving continuous improvement.
* Manufacturing background essential; experience in moulding or extrusion departments advantageous.
* Strong coaching and influencing skills to nurture an actively engaged culture.
* Excellent organisational, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
* Experience running small to medium projects.
* Superior time‑management, communication and organisational skills.
* Demonstrated virtues of Hungry, Humble & Smart.
* IOSH or similar health and safety qualification.
* Qualification relating to continuous improvement.
