Offer description

Voltloader is the UK’s first all-electric haulier, pioneering a new era of sustainable freight and charging solutions. We are a small but ambitious scale-up, operating at the cutting edge of both zero-emission logistics and the rapidly growing EV charging sector. This is a rare opportunity to join a business at the heart of its growth journey, where your impact will be immediate and visible, and where success is directly rewarded with a meaningful equity stake.

For more information, please see www.voltloader.com.

The Role

As Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for scaling and running Voltloader’s fledgling haulage and charging operations. We are looking for a proven operational leader with experience managing teams of office and field-based operatives in complex, safety-critical, or technical environments — whether in logistics, utilities, telecoms, energy, or similar industries.

You will build, lead, and inspire a high-performing operations team, including transport managers, charger engineers, internal/agency HGV drivers and customer service representatives, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence. Ensuring operational efficiency, reliability, and regulatory compliance will be central to the role, while delivering an outstanding customer experience across both haulage and charging services. This is a rare opportunity to define the operating model of a pioneering, high-growth business and make a tangible impact from day one.

The role also has a strong strategic dimension. As one of the senior members of the leadership team, you will help define the long-term operating model for Voltloader, shaping and implementing processes that grow alongside the business. You will contribute to overall company strategy, support fundraising and investor engagement, and be a central driver of Voltloader’s ambitious growth plans.

This role offers the chance to shape the future of sustainable transport in the UK, joining at a pivotal stage in the business’s growth and participating directly in its long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

* Ensure robust operations across all aspects of the business; responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of Voltloader’s haulage services, fully adhering to our haulage licence requirements, as well as overseeing excellence in the operation of our charging network.
* Define and implement a scalable operating model that grows with the business, optimising workflows, processes, and systems for efficiency and reliability.
* Drive operational efficiency and effectiveness; continuously optimise the haulage and charging operations to deliver consistent, reliable, and cost-effective services.
* Strategic leadership and growth support; as a member of the company’s leadership team, contribute to defining the company’s strategy, support fundraising and investment initiatives, and act as a key driver of Voltloader’s growth journey.
* Lead and inspire the operations team; transport managers/schedulers, internal/agency HGV drivers, charger engineers, customer services representatives and field-based operatives—fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance. Initially this role will be hands‑on working with the team, and will become increasingly more leadership focussed as we grow.
* Deliver exceptional customer experience, ensuring both haulage and charging customers receive seamless, professional service.
* Manage supplier relationships with key partners, including truck manufacturers/dealers and charger installers/service providers, securing best-in‑class service and reliability.
* Risk management and compliance; proactively identify operational risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain a culture of safety and accountability across all operations.
* Performance measurement and reporting; set, monitor, and report on key operational KPIs, using data-driven insights to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
* Collaborate across functions, aligning operations with commercial, finance, technology, and customer priorities.

Role Requirements

* Proven operational leadership; managing teams of office and field-based operatives in complex, safety-critical, or technical environments (logistics, utilities, telecoms, energy, or similar).
* Strategic and operational thinker; able to define a long-term operating model and then roll it out day-to-day, balancing immediate operational delivery with longer-term planning, process design, and continuous improvement.
* Safety and compliance mindset; a deep understanding of operational risk, working within regulatory frameworks and health & safety requirements, and ensuring the business always operates responsibly and sustainably.
* Customer-focused; a track record of delivering excellent customer experiences through operational excellence.
* Entrepreneurial mindset; thriving in small, agile teams, comfortable with ambiguity, and taking ownership of change.
* Commercially aware; understanding operational efficiency, profitability, and its role in business growth.
* Comfortable with technology; and happy to work with IT specialists to oversee the implementation of the required customer and internal technology platforms.
* High-impact leader; able to motivate, develop, and retain teams, creating a culture of accountability and excellence.
* Attracted to risk/reward; motivated by equity-aligned success where personal impact directly contributes to business growth.

Optional Requirements

* Experience in the haulage and/or eMobility industries .
* Scale-up experience, with a track record of building, scaling, and optimising operational functions in fast-moving, high-growth businesses.

What We Offer
