Accountant (Practice)

Salary: £35,000 - £39,000 DOE
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm

A well-established and expanding accountancy practice in Fareham is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its growing team. This is a permanent, full‑time opportunity offering exposure to a broad and varied client portfolio, with the chance to play an integral role within a professional and supportive practice environment.
The Role
The accountant will be responsible for servicing a mixed portfolio of clients, preparing accounts and tax returns while working closely with Portfolio Managers. The role also involves supporting junior team members and contributing to the delivery of high-quality client service across the practice.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation of year-end accounts for Limited Companies, LLPs, Sole Traders and Partnerships
Preparation of Corporation Tax and personal tax returns under supervision
Use of accounting software including Xero, Sage, QuickBooks and Dext to process client data
Preparation and submission of VAT and CIS returns
Preparation and commentary of Management Accounts
Calculation of business and personal tax using practice software
Addressing file review points and preparation of accounts packs and client correspondence
Assisting with personal tax matters under the supervision of senior accountants
Involvement in ad hoc duties including P11Ds, ATED and other compliance work
Working to defined client budgets and supporting workflow delivery to meet deadlines
Gaining knowledge across all areas of the practice including Company Secretarial work
Mentoring and supporting less experienced team members where appropriate
Ensuring compliance with internal procedures, legislation and regulatory requirements
Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high standards and efficiencyThe Candidate
The successful candidate will be AAT Level 4 qualified with a minimum of 3 years' QBE experience within an accountancy practice. They will have previously operated at Semi-Senior level and demonstrate strong communication skills, professionalism and a proactive approach. The ideal individual will be customer-focused, detail-oriented and keen to continue developing their technical knowledge within a growing practice.
Skills & Experience Required
AAT Level 4 qualified with demonstrable practice experience
At least 3 years' QBE within an accountancy practice
Some experience or knowledge of personal tax
Comfortable dealing with client queries in a professional, timely and commercial manner
Ability to work accurately to deadlines and manage changing priorities
Strong attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
Confident communicator able to liaise at all levels, including senior management
Experience working in a fast-paced, professional office environment
