The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant machinery and associated equipment at the Perth WEEE recycling facility. This role supports both reactive and planned maintenance activities, driving continuous improvement, minimising downtime, and supporting the site’s operational and environmental objectives. The role is mechanically biased with some electrical involvement, operating within a fast‑paced, production-driven environment. The postholder will help deliver a safe, compliant, and high-performing plant capable of meeting recycling targets and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities Planned & Reactive Maintenance Carry out preventative maintenance activities in accordance with the site’s maintenance plan. Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and implementing effective repairs to minimise downtime. Conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurrence of equipment failures. Machinery & Equipment Work Maintain, repair, and overhaul plant equipment including: Conveyors Compressors Hydraulics and pneumatics Motors, bearings, shafts and rollers Plant pipework Refrigeration recycling equipment (site-specific machinery) Replace, inspect, and service mechanical components such as bearings, seals, belts, and chains. Carry out basic welding and fabrication tasks as required. Continuous Improvement Identify inefficiencies, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities. Recommend new working methods, design modifications, or equipment upgrades that enhance plant reliability, performance, or safety. Support implementation of lean and continuous improvement initiatives. Documentation & Compliance Complete maintenance logs, reports, and service records accurately and in line with internal systems and audit requirements. Ensure engineering documentation reflects any changes made to plant design or configuration. Maintain compliance with all H&S, environmental, and operational policies. Health, Safety & Environment Always work in accordance with site safety rules, risk assessments, and safe systems of work. Ensure all work areas are kept clean, organised, and hazard-free. Highlight any potential risks or unsafe conditions and participate in safety improvement initiatives. General Duties Support basic facility and infrastructure maintenance when required (e.g., lighting, workshop upkeep). Assist with contractor supervision and site induction where necessary. Contribute to positive teamwork and support peers across shifts. Flexibility to adjust working hours for business needs. Participation in training, development, and continuous improvement workshops. Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities. This is not an exhaustive list. You may also be required to carry out any other duties as required by the business that you are qualified/trained in that meet the requirements of this role Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Qualifications Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent). Additional training in hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, or electrical fundamentals desirable. Experience Minimum 1 year mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial environment. Experience working with plant machinery (conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors). Background in recycling, manufacturing, production, or similar heavy industry advantageous. Technical Skills Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills. Ability to maintain and repair mechanical systems safely and efficiently. Basic electrical understanding (desirable but not essential). Competence in welding, fabrication, or machining beneficial. Behavioural Competencies Strong problem-solving ability. High attention to detail and commitment to quality. Flexible and adaptable; able to support shift cover when required. Team-oriented, approachable, and proactive. Works effectively under pressure in a production-driven environment. Job Requirements Full-time role based in Perth. 42.5 hours Monday to Friday (Weekends may be required from time to time to support operational requirements) Days, Swing (This role is day/swing based. Nights may be required for business cover) Work environment is predominantly in a warehouse or processing facility. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn.
