The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Holcim as a Senior Estimator in our Surfacing Division, playing a key role in winning and delivering high-quality off-highway surfacing projects across the private sector. Working within a dynamic estimating team and reporting to the Head of Estimating, you'll be central to driving profitable growth across industrial, retail, logistics and education schemes.
This is a role for someone commercially sharp, technically confident and motivated by results. You'll be pricing complex projects from first principles, engaging directly with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, and influencing commercial outcomes from early-stage engagement through to handover. What You'll Be Doing
Work Winning & Tendering
* Preparing detailed, competitive first-principle estimates for surfacing projects ranging from large distribution centres to school and infrastructure developments
* Reviewing and interrogating tender documentation, drawings, specifications and Bills of Quantities to identify risks and opportunities
* Sourcing and evaluating subcontractor and material supplier quotations to enhance competitiveness
* Managing the bid pipeline to ensure deadlines are met and submissions are delivered to a consistently high professional standard
* Providing thorough project handovers to operations and commercial teams, including legal and contractual considerations
Commercial Strategy & Performance
* Contributing directly to monthly tonnage and margin targets by targeting high-probability opportunities
* Participating in mid-tender and post-tender meetings with Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors to negotiate terms and offer value engineering solutions
* Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of asphalt material pricing, plant hire rates and labour outputs
* Using historical performance and win/loss analysis to refine pricing strategy by region and sector
* Tracking opportunities and maintaining accurate project data within Salesforce
* Supporting Business Development Managers in identifying and developing new and existing client opportunities
Client Relationship Management
* Building strong working relationships with pre-construction teams across major contractors
* Engaging proactively with developers, retailers and education authorities to secure early-stage involvement
* Collaborating closely with Contracts Directors and Operations Managers to ensure estimates are both competitive and operationally achievable
What You'll Bring
* Experience in surfacing or civil engineering estimating, ideally within industrial, retail or education sectors
* Strong technical understanding of asphalt materials (BS EN and the MCHW specification
* Proficiency in estimating software such as Causeway, Candy or advanced Excel-based systems, with the ability to complete accurate digital take-offs
* Familiarity with JCT and NEC4 contract forms and subcontracting provisions
* A commercially focused, results-driven mindset with the ability to work effectively under pressure
* Clear and confident communication skills, able to explain technical pricing to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
