This role is part of the Sweco team within the @one Alliance, reporting to the Project Design Manager and delivering civil engineering projects that support safe drinking water and environmentally-focused work.

As a Civil Engineer within one of our four business units, you’ll create value-driven civil designs that achieve capital investment programme outcomes and deliver value.

Under the direction of the Project Design Manager, you’ll deliver Civil Engineering projects that maintain safe drinking water and contribute to pioneering, environmentally-focused work for the region’s prosperity.


What You’ll Be Doing

* Production of civil designs, calculations and specifications for water-sector assets, design schedules and specifications for pipes including ductile iron, steelwork and plastic.
* Work within multi-discipline design teams to produce designs on time, within budget and to required standards; liaise with Operations, contractors, and suppliers.
* Drive excellence in Health and Safety in design by eliminating hazards and reducing risks, complying with Alliance CDM procedures.
* Progress projects from feasibility through detailed design to construction.
* Conduct site visits to assess asset condition for feasibility studies, reports and to provide survey data for integration into design solutions.
* Support updates to existing Standard Products and increase their use in repeatable design solutions.
* Identify and promote opportunities to meet project digital, sustainability, innovation and people objectives.


About You

You will ideally have:

* BEng or MEng/MSc in Civil or Structural Engineering, ideally working towards Chartered Engineer status.
* Knowledge and experience in structural calculations for concrete structures and design of various civil engineering structures.
* Experience with relevant engineering design software packages.
* Confidence in using British Standards and Eurocodes and the ability to interpret ground investigation reports for correct design solutions.
* Teamwork and collaboration skills.
* Strong reporting, writing and data analysis skills.
* Ability to professionally challenge current ways of working and suggest new approaches.

Depending on your skills, you could be aligned to one of our four business units:

* Place Based Thinking – delivers large, complex projects across the @one Alliance, overseeing multiple catchments and projects from rising and gravity mains to pumping stations and water recycling centres.
* Water – provides strategic support across the clean water network, assessing hydraulic state and delivering capital and infrastructure schemes for resilience and efficiency.
* Water Recycling (East and West) – responsible for wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment across a large network, driving innovation and environmental performance.
