Offer description

A highly regarded independent day school in Nottinghamshire is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and intellectually curious Teacher of History to join its successful Humanities department. This is a rewarding opportunity to teach History in a school that places real value on scholarship, discussion and independent thought. The Role You will teach History across KS3–KS5, delivering a broad and well-sequenced curriculum that develops strong disciplinary thinking alongside detailed subject knowledge. Lessons are discussion-rich and analytical, with a clear focus on interpretation, source evaluation and extended writing. At GCSE and A-Level, pupils engage confidently with complex historical debates, and outcomes are consistently strong. Class sizes are deliberately small, allowing teachers to stretch high-achieving students while offering personalised academic support. The department encourages enrichment beyond the classroom, including lecture series, reading groups and trips to museums, archives and historically significant sites. The School This independent school has an excellent academic reputation and a warm, inclusive ethos. It educates motivated pupils who are curious, articulate and respectful, and who take pride in their learning. Set on a well-maintained campus with a blend of traditional and modern facilities, the school offers a calm, purposeful teaching environment. Staff benefit from high levels of professional trust and a leadership team that values thoughtful, high-quality teaching over unnecessary bureaucracy. The Department History is a popular and well-established subject within the school. The Humanities team is collaborative and scholarly, with regular opportunities for shared planning, subject discussion and professional development. New staff are well supported and encouraged to develop their own areas of historical interest within the curriculum. About You You will: Hold QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification Have strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for History Be confident teaching GCSE and A-Level Enjoy working with able, motivated pupils Be keen to contribute to the wider intellectual life of the school What’s on Offer Competitive independent-school salary Small class sizes and excellent behaviour Strong academic culture and enrichment opportunities Supportive, professional working environment This is an excellent role for a History teacher seeking depth, academic challenge and a genuinely supportive independent school setting.
