Role Description: Lead and support the team in ensuring maximum utilisation of resources and equipment to achieve efficient production of Right First Time products. Deputise for Manufacturing Manager as required. Work within the company quality, safety and environmental frameworks whilst developing a team working and continuous improvement culture. Proactively manage the team to meet daily/weekly production plan demand. Focus on short- to medium-term strategy to enable the factory to respond to growth plans of brands in area of control. Raise culture and behavioural values to ensure the Teams are well placed to respond. Maintain operational flexibility with efficient utilisation of site support functions (Engineering, Logistics). Ensure the safety of our people and products and operate within a unionised environment where continuous improvement is essential.
Responsibilities include building strong relationships with team members, peers and colleagues, modelling and encouraging the right values and behaviours, embedding supply chain strategy across the team and department, following company and site processes and procedures, managing budgets and assisting in capital expenditure projects, and driving continuous improvement across the site strategy. Promote a safety culture and actively support the FAST team.
Health & Safety & Environment: ensure staff are aware of hazards, risk assessments and SOPs are available and followed, resolve unsafe acts/conditions, understand responsibilities, participate in safety observation tours, conduct audits/assessments, encourage near miss reporting, manage responses to near misses and accidents, and support timely investigations and corrective actions.
People Management & Development: conduct effective appraisals, monitor progress against targets, investigations as needed, disciplinary actions per site policy, manage attendance, support return to work, set targets, train and develop the team, promote teamwork, and manage holiday planning. Use SAP for labour planning and ensure labour aligns with production/logistic demands.
Production / Logistics: ensure SOPs are used for standardised tasks, manage team to deliver KPIs aligned to business objectives, optimise costs, operate to the manufacturing/logistic plan, ensure GMP adherence.
Continuous Improvement: lead CI projects, track progress, support equipment and material trials, gather data to identify improvements and waste reduction, perform root cause analysis of issues.
Engineering: implement breakdown improvement actions, work with engineering to deliver maintenance programs, deploy engineering resources as needed.
Quality Management: ensure understanding of quality standards, complete paperwork to site quality standards, promote Right First Time, perform audits, manage quality actions to completion, participate in taste panels, ensure site compliance with customer and accreditation assessments, maintain CCPs and report issues to Technical.
Communication: attend meetings (monthly/weekly/daily) with preparation, build strong relationships across functions, produce performance reports against plan/KPIs, deliver engaging team briefings, and ensure effective shift handovers.
