Land Development Surveyor – Renewable Energy
Location: Bury St Edmunds, England, United Kingdom (3 days per week in the office)
Salary: Negotiable based on skills and experience.
Our client is a leading UK developer of grid‑scale renewable energy and battery storage (BESS) projects, backed by a well‑established property and land development group. With over 1.2 GW of BESS, 140 MW of solar, and 670 MW of consented projects, they are accelerating the UK’s transition to Net Zero by 2050.
They build strong relationships with landowners, local authorities, and investors, delivering commercially sound and technically robust projects that support a sustainable energy future.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will identify, secure, and manage land opportunities for renewable energy and battery storage projects nationwide.
This role is ideal for a qualified MRICS surveyor or experienced land professional who wants to apply their skills to the fastest‑growing sector in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Source, appraise, and secure new land opportunities suitable for renewable energy and battery storage developments.
* Negotiate Heads of Terms, leases, options, and easement agreements with landowners and their agents.
* Maintain and extend existing agreements as projects progress.
* Work closely with legal advisers to finalise agreements efficiently and effectively.
* Support the planning and feasibility stages of each site, coordinating with external planning consultants and internal technical teams.
* Undertake initial land and grid feasibility assessments using GIS and digital mapping tools.
* Monitor project timelines, ensuring key land milestones are met.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, agents, local authorities, and utility companies.
* Represent the business professionally during meetings, site visits, and public consultations.
* Contribute to financial appraisals and commercial assessments for new and existing sites.
* Support project sales, acquisitions, and due diligence activities as required.
About You
* MRICS-qualified (or equivalent experience in land development or estate management).
* Strong background in land acquisition, negotiation, and development—ideally with exposure to renewable energy, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
* Proven ability to negotiate and manage Heads of Terms and land agreements.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* Commercially minded, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Proficient in GIS or land appraisal tools (e.g., LandInsight, Promap).
* Experience in renewable energy, battery storage, or solar project development.
* Understanding of grid connection and planning processes.
* Exposure to project transactions or M&A.
