Overview
Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, development and packaging of mechanical systems and components for advanced industrial equipment.
This role is ideal for an engineer with strong experience in SolidWorks, sheet metal design and mechanical assemblies, looking to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
You will work closely with electrical, systems and software engineering teams to deliver innovative, robust and cost-effective mechanical design solutions for global applications.
Key Responsibilities
Translate customer requirements into detailed mechanical specifications and design solutions
Create 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks, with a focus on sheet metal and fabricated structures
Design and develop mechanical enclosures, housings and industrial assemblies
Structure and manage CAD data using PDM systems
Select materials and components based on performance, cost, manufacturability and compliance with standards
Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure designs are fully integrated and feasible
Support manufacturing and suppliers during fabrication, assembly and build processes
Resolve complex design and production challenges across the product lifecycle
Develop and test prototypes and sample builds
Produce detailed engineering drawings, layouts and calculations
Troubleshoot and resolve issues arising during manufacturing, testing and field service
Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Ensure designs meet regulatory, customer and internal quality standards
Stay up to date with modern manufacturing techniques and CAD best practices
Skills & Experience Required
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer or similar role
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D CAD design)
Experience with sheet metal design and welded/fabricated assemblies
Knowledge of mechanical systems design for industrial applications
Experience using PDM systems for CAD data management
Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation
Familiarity with BOM structures and engineering change processes
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable Skills
Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
Background in enclosure design, control panels or containerised systems
Knowledge of cable routing and integration with electrical systems
Experience working with manufacturing teams, fabrication or suppliers
Understanding of design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA)
