Warwick
National Grid
Posted: 17 April
Offer description

At National Grid, our commitment to a cleaner, greener energy future is powered by the dedication and ingenuity of our people. Join our team as a HVDC Business Strategy Partner and be a part of something bigger—where your unique skills and passions can make a real difference. Together, we are superpowered.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking professional; whether your experience lies in strategy, business partnering, data analysis, procurement, or engineering; to help shape the future of our category strategy.

This role will play a critical part in shaping forward-looking procurement and supply chain strategies across National Grid’s HVDC portfolio, ensuring we are one step ahead of business needs in an increasingly constrained and evolving global supply market.

The HVDC Business Strategy Partner will act as a trusted business partner to National Grid business units and Procurement Programme Teams, providing data driven insight and strategic expertise to support informed decision making. The role will help anticipate and mitigate supply chain risks, manage capacity and lead times, and influence senior stakeholders across the organisation. The HVDC Business Strategy Partner will play a key role in supporting high value, complex infrastructure programmes.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of projects critical to achieving Net Zero. Applicants should be passionate about the energy transition and bring one or more of the following capabilities: technical, commercial, or strategy development expertise.

This role is based out of our Warwick office, and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

What You’ll Do

* Shape category strategy – Help build and continuously improve procurement strategies for HVDC equipment and services, turning market insight and supply chain intelligence into clear, actionable plans.
* Drive supply chain insight – Track supplier capacity, lead times, and market trends to anticipate challenges, strengthen forecasting, and support confident, future focused decision making.
* Influence key stakeholders – Work with project, engineering, commercial, and finance teams to align project delivery with category strategy, ensuring solutions are realistic, compliant, and value driven.
* Provide strategic assurance – Contribute to portfolio and project reviews, offering guidance on supply chain readiness, risk, and overall deliverability.
* Deliver high quality analysis – Create clear, data driven documents, models, and presentations that simplify complexity and support senior level decisions.
* Build capability – Help shape a growing, ambitious category team by promoting strategic thinking and consistent ways of working.

What You’ll Have

* MCIPS qualification (or progression towards) is preferred, though not essential.
* We welcome candidates with backgrounds in procurement, engineering, energy, commercial, data, or related disciplines.
* Energy sector experience is desirable but not essential.
* An understanding of the Procurement Act 2023 (PA23) and Utilities Contracts Regulations (UCR) 2016.
* A strategic thinker who enjoys working at the intersection of data, people, and long term planning, balancing strategic insight with practical delivery.
* Curious, proactive, and driven to understand supply chain and deliverability challenges.
* Significant experience in strategy, category management, supply chain, commercial, or a closely related field within complex or regulated environments.
* Highly organised, with strong capability in structuring, analysing, and interpreting data.
* Confident leader and coach, with experience supporting and developing others in multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong written and presentation skills, able to translate complex analysis into clear insights and recommendations.
* Collaborative team player with a structured, methodical approach and strong attention to detail.

What You’ll Get

Up to £58,000 dependant on experience.

Base salary plus a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme with a double match of your contribution up to 12%.

Flexible benefits include a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, employee assistance lines, and matched charity giving.
