Reports to: Head Physiotherapist
Department: Medical & Sports Science
Hours: Full time in accordance with 1st Team schedules, no less than 40 per week. Due to the nature of the post evening and weekend work will be required.
Place of Work:Bloomfield Road Stadium and BFC training ground, with the ability to travel to First Team fixtures, reserve fixtures, tours, and medical appointments as required.
Salary: Competitive (experience dependant)

Who we are:

Blackpool Football Club is an English Professional Association Football Club based in the seaside town of Blackpool, Lancashire.

The Club was founded in 1887 and has a very storied history, from being a founding member of the Lancashire League in 1889, rising to the Top-Flight of the Football League (the old First Division) in 1930, to winning the FA Cup in 1953 and being promoted to the Premier League in 2010 (becoming the first Club to gain promotion from every division of the Football League via the play-off system.)

The team are competing in League One, the third tier of the English Football League.

The Club have played their home games at Bloomfield Road since 1901.

About the Role:

Blackpool Football Club are recruiting an experienced and committed Physiotherapist to join their First Team Medical and Sports Science Department.

The successful candidate will have the skills, experience and knowledge to assist the Head Physiotherapist to provide optimal service provision as and when required. They will be highly motivated, possess exceptional communication skills, have a passion for working in professional football and possess the drive and enthusiasm to strive for excellence.



Key Responsibilities:

•To be involved in all Medical related matters, including any assessment and/or treatment of all Blackpool Football Club Players First Team playing squad or otherwise as directed by the Head Physiotherapist.
•To promote and protect the health and wellbeing of all Players.
•To ensure a thorough Medical and musculoskeletal screening procedure is performed on all Blackpool FC players.
•To maintain accurate and updated medical records in accordance with applicable legislation, protocols and guidelines.
•To assist in the assessment, diagnosis, design, development and implementation of comprehensive rehabilitation programmes of injuries and illnesses ensuring an effective return to competitive play.
•To maintain focus of injured players and their rehabilitation pathway, whilst ensuring open communication is maintained with all involved in the rehabilitation process.
•To identify and use the latest and most effective physiotherapy/medical research in order to implement the highest standards of clinical assessment and treatment.
•To build and sustain professional relationships as both an independent practitioner and collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
•Work as part of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the optimal physical development of our professional players.
•Attend home and away fixtures, training sessions, and training camps as indicated by the Head Physiotherapist.
•To assist in the monitoring of all players’ injury and fitness status with regard to training and playing.
•Responsible for pitch side assessment and treatment of players during matches.
•To provide and implement injury prevention strategies in conjunction with the Sports Science Department.
•To assist in ensuring the Club and players are compliant with all medical and anti-doping guidelines, rules and regulations of the governing bodies, i.e. EFL, FA etc. to keep up to date with all said policies and guidelines.
•To assist in ensuring that all medical supplies and equipment are fully stocked, replenished, and secured as required.
•Report any malfunction of equipment to the Head Physiotherapist and if required, assist in the procurement of new or suitable alternatives.
•Responsible for assisting the Head Physiotherapist for the spending of the medical budget, keeping within set parameters each session.
•In the absence of the Head Physiotherapist, liaise with other Football Club Medical staff of loan players to ensure they are informed of status whilst on loan.
•Assist the Head Physiotherapist to liaise with medical staff of international players to ensure they are managed appropriately whilst away on international duty.
•Maintain respect and patient confidentiality at all times, observing the Company’s policies and procedures in relation to privacy and data protection.
•Organise and accompany players to specialist consultations and post-surgical appointments.
•Undertake appropriate professional development to keep abreast of industry best practice.
•Additional duties as reasonably requested by the Head Physiotherapist.
•To adhere to the Club’s Safeguarding Policy at all times.
•To promote a safe and healthy working environment for all players and staff.
•To promote a professional image of the Club and themselves at all times.
•To contribute to identifying and undertaking initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
•To work with and support other team members as required ensuring effective and efficient service is developed and delivered.

Person Specification

Qualifications - Essential Requirements
•BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy or similar of equivalent
•Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
•Member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
•Post graduate qualifications specialising in physiotherapy, rehabilitation sports and exercise medicine
•Soft tissue therapy qualification

Qualifications - Desirable Requirements
•A post-graduate qualification or working towards (Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science, Sports Medicine, Manual Therapy, etc.).
•FA Intermediate First Aid for Sport qualification (ITMMIF).
•FA Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMIF).

Experience - Essential Requirements
•Minimum of 2 years of experience working within an elite sports environment, preferably in Football.
•Experience of planning and implementing individual player and team performance testing assessments.

Experience - Desirable Requirements
•Interest in strength and conditioning.

Knowledge & Skills
•Highly motivated with an open-minded view to adopting new practices.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the provision of medical support to elite athletes.
•Ability to work calmly under pressure and unsupervised.
•IT skills to include the use of performance analysis software and Microsoft Office.

Personal Qualities
•Passionate about sports and Player welfare.
•Proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and player care.
•Self-motivated with the ability to work both alone and as a member of a team.
•A Willingness to learn and continuously develop.
•Assertive, calm with the ability to work well under pressure.
•Valid full UK driving licence.
•Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
