Job overview

Our maintenance officers play a vital role within the running of the hospitals and health centres and take pride within the environment in which they operate. It is the Maintenance Officers responsibility to ensure that all equipment and facilities are fully functioning, keeping the safety of employees and customers at the forefront of everything we do. They must support the maintenance manager with their duties.

Main duties of the job

* The post holder will be responsible for assisting the Maintenance Manager across the full range of his/her duties ensuring that works are delivered to an agreed quality, cost and within agreed time parameters.
* To be responsible for the supervision of all external contractors.
* Re-schedule and reallocate work priorities at short notice to meet the changing needs of the Trust.
* Provide assistance and support to the Maintenance Manager while being the point of contact for all Engineering and Building maintenance and technical compliance issues, including the compilation and interpretation of data and reports for backlog maintenance planning and improvement to the engineering and building functions.
* To be responsible for the local Estates management system (Concept) and the development of the system to provide accurate information on the maintenance functions.
* To assist with the review and implementation of Pre-planned Preventive Maintenance systems as required.
* To be responsible for and to ensure that relevant statutory inspections are completed within the required time scales and records maintained.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 pro rata for part time).

On-call Allowance This post will be required to participate in the Estates on-call rota and attracts payment of 3% of the basic salary.

Person specification

Qualifications

* Evidence of a good general education
* Educated to degree level or HNC/HND plus additional education to degree level, or able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge
* Evidence of continuing professional development and to regularly undertake R & D activities. Willingness to undergo further training.
* Incorporated Membership of relevant professional body such as CIBSE, RICS or CIOB, IEEE, or an equivalent level of experience

Experience

* Relevant experience of building or engineering services siteworks or maintenance
* Supervision of Estates maintenance activities or contracts, and/or Estates project works or contracts
* Experience in production of specifications for maintenance, installation or refurbishment works and the supervision of contracts.

Knowledge

* In-depth knowledge of Building Engineering Services and or construction
* Knowledge of BMS application
* Ability to act as the departments Estates user/client when working with in-house project managers and external consultants, to brief on initial design and to support snagging and integration of new works into PPM system etc
