Position
We are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Support Worker post in Haymoor Day Hospital, at the Alderney Hospital site in Poole. The Day Hospital serves the whole of Dorset and operates from 08.30 to 16.30 Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
* Work within a small nursing team offering high quality mental health nursing care as well as meaningful occupational and recreational activities for up to twelve people a day with a high level of dementia health needs.
* Actively participate in the organisation and delivery of activities and be part of a flexible treatment programme that offers person‑centred nursing care.
* Support patients with meals, activities, personal care and, at times, transport to and from the day hospital.
* Communicate effectively with patients, adapting style to meet dementia needs.
* Participate in CPR, Physical Intervention, breakaway training and manual handling; perform required techniques as needed.
* Complete the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course and maintain all necessary training; completion is required to commence work.
* Assist in monitoring and maintaining patients' personal hygiene standards and engaging them in organised, planned meaningful activities.
* Act as an active member of the multi‑disciplinary team in assisting and engaging patients.
Key Skills and Experience
* Calmness, compassion, and a passion for working with older adults.
* Experience working with people with dementia preferred.
* Excellent communication, team‑working, occupational and therapeutic skills.
* Flexibility and adaptability.
* High level of engagement skills.
Essential Requirements
* Enhanced DBS check (covering cost by the Trust).
* Applicants requiring current Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK are ineligible to apply.
Additional Information
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service can present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
