Cardiology Veterinary Assistant Location: Durham, NC Schedule: Full-time; 8a-5p M-Th The Triangle's premier emergency and multi-specialty veterinary hospital is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Veterinary Assistant (VA) to join our cardiology team. We provide 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in neurology, surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation. We are looking for a veterinary medical team member who wants to utilize their skills to the fullest potential in a collaborative, fun, and fast-paced environment. Members of the cardiology team function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. Solid technical skills and knowledge base, sound judgment, and the ability to function both independently and with a team are required. The successful applicant will be organized, demonstrate strong verbal and written communication, and apply critical thinking. The cardiology team treats patients with a wide variety of cardiologic conditions and diseases. The primary role of the Cardiology VA is to assist the clinician and other medical team members with a variety of diagnostics and procedures. It is not required to have all the skills necessary to be a cardiology VA but a positive approach and willingness to learn is imperative. Specific Responsibilities: Set up and assist with routine medical procedures including thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis, and echocardiograms Perform various technical procedures including intravenous catheter placement and other venipuncture Assist the clinician by being proactive and anticipatory of clinician needs Maintain patient’s treatment record and medical note records under direction of clinician Effectively communicate with clients including facilitating appointments, obtaining patient histories, client education, and patient follow-ups (phone, email) Ensure adequate stocking of supplies and maintain cleanliness in the designated specialty exam room Assist in positioning and acquisition of patient radiographs Process in-house and reference lab samples Fill in-house prescriptions, fax prescription authorizations, and call in prescriptions to outside pharmacies Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients and medical care to outpatients, including medication calculations and administration Managing client invoices (PVL) and charge for services appropriately Preferred Education and/or Experience Associates degree in science related field 2 years of veterinary experience as an assistant In addition to a competitive salary, TVRH offers a comprehensive benefits package including: Health, vision, and dental HSA and FSA Plans Short-term and long-term disability Critical Illness, Accident and Hospital Indemnity Life Insurance 401k with employer match Paid Parental Leave Internal benefits include PTO, CE PTO and allowance, uniform allowance, and veterinary services discount.
