Description Are you looking for an exciting position where you can play a key part in supporting key policy and legislation development? The Children’s Hearings team within the Directorate for Children and Families supports the effective operation of the children’s hearings system, supporting key public bodies and developing policy and legislation. We provide the sponsor function to two key non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs) – the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration (SCRA) and Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) and are responsible for the governance, legislation and policy covering Scotland’s unique approach to youth justice. The role will be to support the team across business, administration and policy needs to maintain and manage the current approach but also play a vital role in helping with a redesign of the current system – a central pillar of The Promise. The team consists of a Team Leader, Senior Policy Manager and Senior Policy Officer who work closely with colleagues in Children’s Hearings Redesign and Children’s Hearings Advocacy. We sit within the Youth Justice & Children’s Hearings Unit within the Children’s Rights, Protection and Justice Division of DCAF. Responsibilities Provide support to the team across sponsorship and policy functions for children’s hearings. Support the unit to undertake stakeholder engagement including arranging meetings, drafting agendas and note taking whilst building effective relationships with two high profile public bodies. Work with the Senior Policy Officer role with public appointment planning and other key sponsorship functions. Contribute to the team finance function, including making regular payments using Oracle. Work with the policy team responding to requests for briefings, correspondence; freedom of information requests, and other core government business. Support the work of the Children’s Hearings Redesign team through a crucial period of legislative work; a key part of Ministerial commitments for the Promise Qualifications Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills, experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on.
