Reception Learning Support Worker – Cardiff
Start Date: September
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Term-time only (approx. 12 weeks off per year)
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Worker to join a welcoming primary school in Cardiff, supporting children within a Reception class.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about early years education who is looking to make a real impact during the most important stages of a child’s development.
The Role
You will be working closely with the class teacher to support pupils aged 4–5, helping to create a nurturing, engaging, and safe learning environment. The role will involve both general classroom support and working 1:1 or in small groups with children who may need additional guidance.
Key Responsibilities
* Supporting children with early learning skills including phonics, reading, and basic numeracy
* Assisting with classroom activities through play-based learning
* Providing 1:1 support where required, including children with additional learning needs
* Encouraging positive behaviour and social development
* Supporting the teacher with classroom preparation and daily routines
* Ensuring the safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils at all times
Requirements
* Experience working with children (school, nursery, childcare, or similar)
* Strong understanding of Early Years/Foundation Phase learning
* A patient, caring, and proactive approach
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* A genuine passion for supporting children’s development
Desirable (but not essential)
* Experience working with SEN/ALN
* Relevant qualifications in childcare or education
* Knowledge of phonics programmes and early learning strategies

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
