AtkinsRéalis Transportation Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the centre of excellence for the delivery of major transportation infrastructure projects and combines the best in project management and design management to provide a full suite of services to clients in the public and private sectors.
The team is responsible for delivery of design services across our markets of Rail and Transit, Highways and Local Transport, and lean out into other sectors including Defence and Nuclear. We have a wide client base including HS2, National Highways, Network Rail, Irish Rail, Local Authorities, as well as several Principal Contractors.
There is an exciting opening within the PDP Rail and Transit team for a Project Manager to help deliver our growing portfolio of railway infrastructure projects. With a home office in Bristol, London, Cardiff or Swindon, this role requires flexibility to travel two to three days per week across the UK and Ireland.
Your role
* Project Delivery: Lead projects from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
* Team Leadership: Build, motivate, maintain, coach, guide, and develop teams.
* Planning & Coordination: Work with resource managers to plan ahead and ensure the right skills are available. Align teams on scope, timelines, costs, risks, and interfaces.
* Performance Monitoring: Track and report project progress against key targets including programme, quality, financials, and KPIs.
* Governance and Commercial Management: Ensure compliance with company, client, and industry standards. Manage risks, opportunities, and contract changes throughout the project lifecycle.
* Client Engagement: Act as the main point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and identifying opportunities for future work.
* Win Work: Act as Bid Manager on selective pursuits, working with our Market teams to secure new projects.
* Team Development and Community Contribution: Share best practices, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the wider project management community.
Qualifications
* Several years of infrastructure delivery experience, gained within a consultancy environment or in applicable roles for client or contractor organisations.
* Project/Engineering Management background with experience of the Heavy Rail or Light Rail/Mass Transit sector, delivering work for clients such as Network Rail, HS2, Transport for London, Transport for Greater Manchester, and Principal Contractors.
* Experience leading multi‑disciplinary design teams (≥£1m design fees) either as part of design & build contracts or for design development commissions.
* Understanding of design delivery, assurance, and change control.
* Ability to work constructively and collaboratively with clients and internal teams to ensure project objectives are met.
* Understanding of various forms of contract, in particular NEC3 or 4 and/or bespoke forms, and experience of deploying them.
* Professional membership and recognised level of Project Management competence (e.g., MAPM, MICE, PMQ, or equivalent) – desirable.
