We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Mechanic to join our Fleet Services team at the Merlin Way depot in Ilkeston. You will play a key role in maintaining and repairing our municipal fleet - from refuse collection vehicles to road sweepers - ensuring essential services are delivered safely and reliably across the borough.
Responsibilities
* Prepare vehicles for MOT, servicing and repairs across HGV vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers and light to medium sized commercial vehicles
* Diagnose faults and carry out timely workshop repairs
* Attend breakdowns and resolve issues roadside when possible
* Undertake repairs, maintenance and servicing to agricultural vehicles, plant and equipment including mowers – training can be provided
* Participate in an out-of-hours standby service on a rota basis when the fleet is operational outside normal working hours and at weekends; an additional stand-by allowance is payable when on-call
* Hold or be willing to work towards a clean driving licence with HGV Category C for road testing (training provided if needed); a clean driving licence (Category B minimum) is required
* Hands-on experience with maintenance and repair of petrol and diesel engine vehicles and with HGV municipal vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles and road sweepers
* Work well independently and as part of a team

* Have achieved a City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 (Light/Heavy Vehicle Maintenance) or demonstrable equivalent work experience; Disability Confident
Qualifications
* City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 (Light/Heavy Vehicle Maintenance) or demonstrable equivalent work experience
* Clean driving licence (Category B minimum); HGV Category C desirable (training provided if needed)
* Experience in maintenance and repair of petrol and diesel engine vehicles, including HGV municipal vehicles
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Positive, flexible and reliable with a commitment to high standards
